Went to Wolfe Island on this morning, found one Snowy in the field. Even during inclement weather, opportunities present themselves...if only I make the effort and get out there, when I do...I most always get rewarded.
Portrait and Wildlife photographer based in Kingston, Ontario. Photos include various wildlife of the area, including Bald Eagles, Barred & Snowy Owls, various woodpeckers, other small birds and mammals.

Common Redpolls
Went out to Wolfe Island on November 29 to look for Snowy owls without any luck, but did nicely with these Redpolls. Driving slowly on one of the smaller roads and seen a flock just on the other side of the fence. I pulled over, shut the engine off and rolled down the window "in case" and sure enough, I was rewarded by this pair.

Ok...got a deal on a EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM while in Toronto and I simply can't wait to start exploring what this lens is capable of!
Also plan on digitizing some of my 35mm b&w negatives and slides with the use of a lightbox and this lens....should be fun!
Stay tuned for more!

Herons are typically quite shy birds.
Took me almost an hour to get within about 50 feet as this GBH was pruning itself perched on a tree leaning over the water.

This Great Blue Heron has returned to a local nesting spot. Due to the risk of spooking these birds (and others), I tend to often shoot from the car window using the door as my tripod.

Found this Pileated working a telephone pole during a recent lunch hour. Very grateful to what Kingston offers with quite the variety of nature and wildlife opportunities.

Love these little Chickadees. All I need to do is to stand still and presto....there here!
The wintertime offers some great plumage on the local feathered creatures.
An offering of a handfull of seed was eagerly accepted. :)

And so I had decided to explore what I could do with photoshop and ended up with this.
I wanted to dramatically bring attention to those gorgeous yellow eyes.

Using LR3, all the colors were desaturated except for blue.

Today's mini ice-storm provided some unique birding photos. There's a few spots in Kingston where the robins stay throughout the winter if there's plenty of food.

And so these poor eagles get hassled not just by by the neighbourhood crows, but the gulls get into the act as well.

American Bald Eagles are back in Kingston!
There have been several reports and sightings for the past few weeks of both adult and juvenile balds.
This was taken just as I was finishing my lunch...what a treat!

Was quite surprised when I went looking for Bald Eagles along the Kingston waterfront and when I looked up, this Peregrine Falcon was sitting up in the tree not paying me any mind.
